Use of camera drones
Füssen Municipal Area:
The use of (camera) drones within the Füssen municipal area is subject to current legal regulations (EU Drone Regulation). An overview of the regulations is available for download on the Federal Aviation Authority’s website.

Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau Royal Castles:
A ban on flying (camera) drones over the royal castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau is in effect. Drone photography of the two royal castles is generally not permitted or must be approved in advance by the Bavarian Administration of State Castles, Gardens, and Lakes (for Neuschwanstein Castle) or by the Wittelsbach Compensation Fund (for Hohenschwangau Castle).
In general, aerial photography conducted over property owned by the Bavarian Palace Administration requires authorization. This also applies when remote-controlled drones, multicopters, or similar devices are used for filming or photography. In principle, filming with such aircraft is permitted only in a few justified exceptional cases and only under certain conditions. Their use poses an increased risk to people and the Bavarian Palace Administration’s listed properties, may infringe upon rights, and disrupts the cultural and natural monument. A prerequisite for approval is also compliance with local protected area regulations as well as adherence to other applicable public law provisions.
Protected Areas:
Nature conservation, landscape conservation, bird protection, and other protected areas in the Füssen region where the use of camera drones is not permitted or is permitted only with a special permit from the Lower Nature Conservation Authority of the Ostallgäu district can be viewed via the BayernAtlas.
