Rail replacement service on the Marktoberdorf - Füssen route until probably Tuesday, December 9, 2025
Update: The rail replacement service (SEV) on the Marktoberdorf - Füssen route is expected to be maintained until Friday, December 9, 2025.
On Saturday, November 22, 2025, there was a train derailment on the Ostallgäu-Lechfeld network on the Augsburg/Munich - Buchloe - Füssen line near Weizern-Hopferau at around midday. What sounds frightening at first, in this specific case means that a train coming from Augsburg jumped off the tracks at a switch with the first two axles just before Weizern-Hopferau station. How this could have happened is still being investigated. There were around 150 passengers on board, who were evacuated by the emergency services and transported onwards by bus. There were no injuries.
The train will now be put back on the track today, Sunday, to clear the line. Only then can the damage caused be assessed and an estimate made as to how long the line will be closed. This means that the rail replacement service (SEV) with buses between Marktoberdorf and Füssen will remain in place until further notice. This will also affect school and commuter services from Monday. Passengers are asked to check the BRB website before setting off. The "BRB Störungsinfo" on Facebook and the BRB WhatsApp channels can be used for detailed and train-specific information in real time: www.brb.de/whatsapp. Passengers can find maps of all SEV stops at www.bahnhof.de.

... by car
Füssen marks the southern terminus of Germany's longest highway, the A7. The 961-kilometre federal freeway crosses Germany from north to south and brings travelers by car or coach quickly and conveniently to Füssen. The B16, B17 and B310 federal highways and the Fernpass road (B179) from Austria also lead directly to Füssen.
As the four-lane freeway ends directly after Füssen at the border tunnel, the road is narrowed to two lanes and only continues on two lanes in neighboring Tyrol, traffic jams and obstructions can occur before the Füssen exit on busy days. We recommend that those traveling by car and bus pay attention to current traffic reports and, if necessary, leave the freeway at the Nesselwang exit. From Nesselwang, you can reach Füssen via the B309 and B310 federal highways .
