The museum of the town of Füssen is located in the former Benedictine monastery of St. Mang and offers you a fascinating insight into the rich history and culture of Füssen. The museum presents an impressive collection that ranges from Roman times to the Middle Ages and modern times. Particularly noteworthy are the precious historical musical instruments, which shed new light on Füssen as a former metropolis of lute and violin making. Another highlight is the section on the history of the monastery and the work of St. Magnus, the patron saint of Füssen. Former monastery library

Die Bibliothek des Hohen Schlosses in Füssen mit hohen Regalen und einem beeindruckenden Rundbogen. Das Bild zeigt einen Raum voller Wissen und Geschichte.

Lute and violin making

Man blickt einen langen Gang entlang. Die Decke ist reich mit Stuck verziert. Am Boden sind Steinplatten verlegt. Auf der linken Seite des Ganges führen Türen in die dahinterliegenden Zimmer. Über den Türen befinden sich mit Stuck eingerahmte Bilder. Einige Stuckrahmen sind leer. Auf der rechten Seite befinden sich zwei Schaukästen, die die unterschiedlichen Entstehungsstadien einer Geige präsentieren.

Baroque rooms

Das Foto zeigt die Köpfe zweier Putten, die sich an Mund und Nase berühren. Sich also scheinbar küssen. Die Puttenköpfe haben braune Haare und blaue Augen. An der Stelle der Kragen sind goldene Engelsflügel zu sehen.

Exhibition focus

Man blickt in eine Geigenbauerwerkstatt. Viele Geigen und Bratschen hängen an einer Schnur nebeneinander. Ein Regal ist mit Hölzern, Schablonen und Latten gefüllt. Ein Regal mit Gläsern und Flaschen voller Flüssigkeiten. Vor einem Fenster steht eine Werkbank. Über der Szenerie hängt ein Firmenschild. Darauf steht: „Konrad Leonhart, Geigenbaumeister.“ Am Schreibtisch im Hintergrund lehnt ein Cello. Das Regal über dem Schreibtisch ist mit Büchern und Ordnern gefüllt.

Imperial Hall

Ein Paar betrachtet die prunkvolle Innenausstattung eines Schlosses. Die Fassade beeindruckt mit blauen Säulen und Stuck.

Summer opening hours until the end of October 2026: Tuesday to Sunday from 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.
Winter opening hours from the beginning of November 2026 to the end of March 2027: Friday to Sunday from 1.30 - 4.00 pm

Christmas Eve / Christmas Day / New Year's Eve / New Year's Day: closed

Children and young people under the age of 18 and school classes have free admission.

Current exhibition

Das Foto zeigt den runden Raum einer Bibliothek. Der Raum ist mit Bücherregalen gefüllt, die nur von Fenstern unterbrochen werden. Die Wände sind in altrosa gestrichen. Der Raum erstreckt sich über zwei Etagen. Im Bereich der oberen Etage verläuft eine Balustrade ringsum. Auf dem Geländer der Balustrade sind im Abstand von ca. 1 Meter unterschiedliche Putten und Engel platziert. Der Raum öffnet sich über eine ovale Öffnung auch in den Raum darunter. Um die Öffnung herum ist ebenfalls ein weißes Geländer angebracht. Die Decke des Raums ist mit Stuck und Gemälden verziert.

Das Bild zeigt eine Gruppe Musiker auf einer niedrigen Bühne stehen. Einige haben Geigen in den Händen. Auch ein Cello und ein Kontrabass ist dabei. Im Hintergrund steht ein Konzertflügel. Die Wände des Raums sind prunkvoll verziert. Vor der Bühne sitzen zahlreiche Personen auf Stühlen der Bühne zugewandt und applaudieren. Der Raum ist hell erleuchtet.

Lute and violin

Das Bild zeigt eine Sammlung von Geigen, die jeder einzeln von einem Haken an einer Wand hängt. Die Geigen sind in einer Reihe angeordnet, mit jedem Instrument gleich in eine Richtung zeigend. Die Geigen sind unterschiedlicher Größe, was darauf hindeutet, dass sie für verschiedene Altersgruppen oder Spielweisen konzipiert sind. Die Geigen sind aus Holz und haben eine reiche, warme Braunfärbung, die vor dem weißen Hintergrund im Bild gut zur Geltung kommt. Die Saiten der Geigen sind sichtbar und tragen dazu bei, die Gesamtästhetik des Bildes zu vervollständigen. Die Anordnung der Geigen und deren Positionierung an der Wand erzeugen ein Gefühl von Ordnung und Harmonie
