Starting Tuesday, September 15, 2026, the B17 road through Schwangau (Hauptstraße) will be closed due to extensive renovation work. The first phase of construction between Schelleweg and Föhrenbergweg is expected to last until December 18, 2026. In total, the work is scheduled to take place in four phases and last until June 2028.
Please note the following information:
- Hohenschwangau and the royal castles will remain accessible from all directions.
- Traffic will be rerouted through Hohenschwangau.
- For vehicles over 3.80 meters in height, a wide detour is in place from Steingaden via Roßhaupten and the B16 to Füssen.
- Smaller vehicles can travel from Buching via the OAL 1 to Roßhaupten.
- Access for residents and those living along the route remains generally possible, but may be temporarily restricted due to individual road closures. Travelers should allow extra time for their journey during the construction period and follow the posted detour signs.
