Where Health is Tradition

Where once the ancient Romans used to bath, Füssen and its districts of Bad Faulenbach, Hopfen am See and Weissensee offer an attractive and professional programme for the well-being of their health-conscious guests: health cures, wellness, fitness and beauty in an outstanding location at the foot of the castles Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau.

The town of Füssen itself is a recognized Kneipp (hydrotherapy) spa, Bad Faulenbach in the car-free Faulenbach Valley Nature Park is a medicinal mud-bath spa, and Weissensee is officially rated as a holiday resort. Hopfen am See, acclaimed by regular guests as the "Allgäu Riviera", is rated as a climatic health resort and Kneipp spa. The spa establishments in the locality carry out not only in-patient prophylactic and rehabilitation treatment but also out-patient bathing cures.

Besides this, in recent years investments have been consistently made in the wellness area. Massages of all kinds, fitness rooms with the most modern facilities, beauty and skin care, bio-saunas, steam baths, packs, relaxation therapy and healthy, energy-boosting cooking have long been standard. New developments like thalassic, light and aroma therapy complete the pampering programme for body and mind. Low-price health packages are offered for a stay of five days or more.

The hotels and sanatoriums, many of them still run as family businesses of a reasonable size, focus on looking after their guests holistically and individually. Anyone who wants to get fit for everyday life can do this here in one of the most beautiful holiday regions in the whole of the Alpine area. The uniquely diverse natural landscape of the Königswinkel (King's Nook) between gentle Allgäu hills, the wild mountain world and Ice-Age lake landscapes provides for an almost unlimited selection of leisure-time pursuits. Attractions like the world-famous royal castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau or the Wies Church, a UNESCO World heritage site, draw in visitors from all over the world to the Königswinkel (King's Nook).

The unique ambience of the over 700-year-old town of Füssen invites you to go on journeys of discovery into the past, but also to take a leisurely look around the shops. As from May 2000 a new highlight will be added to the high-calibre programme of events: "Ludwig II – Longing for Paradise" in the newly-built Füssen Musical Theatre Neuschwanstein carries audiences away into the dream-world of the Bavarian fairy-tale king and is Bavaria's first great musical.

Wherever culture, nature and health combine so successfully, body, mind and soul can also be harmonised with one another.
